| Work description | The residence sustained a catastrophic fire resulting in a complete structural loss. Due to the severity of the fire damage, the structure was determined to be unsafe and posed an imminent risk of collapse, creating a significant hazard to the public, adjacent properties, emergency responders, and the property owner. At the time Munoz Building Maintenance was dispatched by the property owner's Mercury insurance carrier, the residence remained structurally unstable and presented an immediate threat to public safety. Because of the potential for structural collapse and the associated liability risk, emergency demolition was necessary to eliminate the hazardous condition, secure the property, and protect the surrounding community. Munoz Building Maintenance was dispatched by Mercury insurance carrier to perform emergency demolition services. The emergency nature of the situation required prompt action to remove the hazardous structure and prevent further risk. Prior to our arrival, Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) had already disconnected the electrical service, removed the electrical meter, and secured the electrical service to the property. Asbestos abatement was completed by a separate licensed environmental contractor retained directly by the insurance carrier before Munoz Building Maintenance commenced demolition. Our scope of work was limited to the demolition of the remaining fire-damaged structure and the lawful hauling and disposal of demolition debris generated under our scope of work. The demolished residence consisted of approximately 1,600 square feet. All demolition activities were performed in response to the emergency conditions created by the fire-damaged structure. |
