| Work description | Pursuant to 12 DCMR Subsection 1208.2, request is made for a code modification to allow a lower ceiling clearance of 6' 3" in a special case where, structural limitations exist and where it poses no undue health or safety hazard to the occupants. The new structural alteration to open the existing exterior basement with a new addition underneath an existing addition requires a new structural beam that supports an existing metal I beam and another wood beam. The I beam is supported on the side of the new metal beam and the wood beam is supported on top of the new metal beam. The new beam has a rough opening of 6' 4" but with drywall and new flooring the clearance reduces to 6' 3". It would not be possible to meet the code without significant costly structural alterations. |
